WIP: The Final Rise of Phoenixe Imperiale (2014)

Today went to hell in ever aspect of the word AND work. I was supposed to iron it on the cotton, the silk phoenix I mean. I had some barely enough pieces of two sided glue paper, I have no idea what it is in English. Anyway, I used two kinds of paper and busted it. First screw up was the fact I forgot to mirror the draw through, so I had iron the paper on the COTTON first, sure, works... if you know EXACTLY, how the silk cutout goes on top of it. I did flip it for the tails and the wings The ironing went to hell, it was very picky to get a hold of the silk and later the cotton. Very picky. Also, the wrong way done ironing on backfired, the glue spread and melted like mad. But of course, not beneath the phoenix. The tail feathers were also curved wrong, but in the end, what can I do? Nobody's perfect. And my alter ego is not perfect either. Now I'm trying to paint some embers so I can conceal the whites.

WIP: The Final Rise of Phoenixe Imperiale (2014)

Saturday & Sunday updates.
Worked my arse off the whole weekend and now the both parts are ready. Of course it ain't perfect, but I'm not perfect either. Phoenixe Imperiale is me.

Finished the tail and the icy shards at the background fabric. This is the part I was able to do on my own, now I need the teacher.

Gonna try if glue on the edges of the shards to make it more 3D, though they look 3D enough for me...
I laid it on the cotton so I could see, how badly it was off. I think I can manage.

And here's the tail.

WIP: The Final Rise of Phoenixe Imperiale (2014)

Here's the upper part of the body, the beak and the feet, I'm gonna finish the rest later, then it's back to work on the background.

WIP: Final rise of Phoenixe Imperiale (2014)

Some late update from Tuesday and Wednesday, when I had time to continue the silk painting.

Painted the wings and the first parts of the tail, looks pretty glowy. One wing took quite a while, but I managed to do it two days, whereas the second took only one day.

Here's the current, I need to use one whole day for the body, though I'm able to do it in two parts. Dunno when I'm gonna go and spend that day, maybe Saturday.
I also might use glue to make some chunks of ice stand out and become more 3D. I also got to use gold gutta for the legs and beak, I guess.

In Queen's Garden (2014)

Sorry for the blurriness, I'll be scanning all my A3 works this summer and replacing the photos here with them.

WIP: The Final Rise of Phoenixe Imperiale (2014)

I got to continue the silk painting, since I didn't want to start up the next part of the upholstery sewing, which takes time. I have a nasty machine in use, no matter how gently and gradually I step on the pedal, it looks like it's gonna go nice and easy... until one millimeter and it goes Fast and Furious on me. Anyways, back to the phoenix.
It looks rather horrible on that, it really does, made some mistakes. Also, should have used wet on wet, but I didn't want that uncontrolled mixing up. Another mistake. Next error was to add the reddish orange to the tail, I would have gotten so much better quality if I had only used the Inktense pencils for it.

Wait for itt...

TADAA

That is the lower wing from the angle the big one is right now. Pretty nice, despite the gutta bleeds a little, but hey, it's a layer work anyway.

WIP Final rise of Phoenixe Imperiale (2014)

So, yesterday and also tiny bits of today were spent working on the couch trio (named after Finland's famous singer brothers) and of course, my phoenix. I outlined it on the silk and with my typical luck, I forgot to make sure the fabric DOES NOT MOVE! The silk moved around and the result was a disaster. I had to redo several parts, not just with the Inktense pencils, but also with gutta, I managed to make a well all-around screw ups.

Sorry it's sideways.

Corrections, corrections. I'm also suspecting the silk version is larger, sort of... wider, but then again, it's in the frame now and it stretches it...

Carinaur (2014)

It's finally done. This is the only image of Carinaur, the castle built by the Elder Elves and now inhabited by dark elves that I have managed to build. Of course what bums me is the placement of one of the towers, and the fact I was too lazy to use a ruler, but oh well. The windows don't have any shading in them either, but I couldn't care less. The photo doesn't do it justice, maybe one day I take up all my big works and scan them piece by piece.

WIP: Final Rise of Phoenixe Imperiale (2014)

Wednesday was supposed to be a couch day, but we ended up doing our own stuff, meaning, I got FINALLY to do the fabric painting part. At first I carefully outlined the phoenix on the actual base fabric, then I outlined it with gutta, more or less successfully. Then, I used light yellow to paint the phoenix and I got some interesting and accidental effects on it, when the wings and the torso ended up having slight feather-like print in it. Of course I only had my cell phone, so the pictures are crappy.
The background took some more works and it's actually still unfinished. I didn't think it through and I should have put plastic underneath it, so now the cover fabric has my phoenix design on it as well, since the colors bled through. Well, at least it gave me interesting effects and I have a lot more work to do maybe today (Friday). The blues are stronger and darker than in the model image, but I'll work over them with some white wash, so I'm not that screwed yet. I'll work it out.

The image colors lie a little, my camera is not doing well and besides, the paint was wet.
